My Swiss Knife Quit Me: A True Story

May 18th, 2012 § 0

My Swiss knife’s departed my care.
Slunk silently out of my pocket somewhere
and slithered astray to new schemes.
I’m facing a stretch empty handed it seems. » Read the rest of this entry «

Chloride Ingress Test Diagram

October 11th, 2011 § 0

Random fun info-graphic for a method used to speed up chloride ingress testing in concrete. The test can help determine if the material is suitable for an aggressive environment. In this case, it is being used to test bridges and concrete structures in the North Sea.

Zagreb Critical Mass Fall 2011

September 20th, 2011 § 0

It couldn’t have been a more perfect Sunday afternoon to ride through Zagreb as a 1000-person strong bicycle motorcade. This time, the Bike Polo crew decided to take advantage of the “back to school” crowd that would be assembling in front of Mimara museum. We got there about an hour early and knocked the ball around a little, spreading our bikes and gear out over the courtyard, and making a general spectacle of ourselves.

As usual, my good friend at Maic did a great job with some vinyle stickers, and we made sure to litter the event with them. As cyclists of all shapes and styles gathered in fron of the museum, some lined up on the sides of our makeshift polo court to watch. Some rode through the game without noticing. But it all made for a very exciting exhibition. I think one or two of our guys was even interviewed by some TV people.

The critical mass itself was a long, organized cruise through Zagreb’s streets that lasted well over an hour. Police escorts made it a little less “hip” but a lot more effective, and we managed to clog up the streets pretty severely without anyone getting hurt or attacked. We ended up in Ribnjak park, and all the polo peeps hung our bikes on trees, toasting to a wonderful ride and some good promotion.

Well done, Zagreb.

Back to School

September 6th, 2011 § 0

Hey, everyone. It’s been a big Summer for the Blumensheid Crew. We’ve been mobile for a few weeks now. Coastal adventures, a rather wild boat ride with a gang of Ukranian vodka aficionados, an apartment at the top of the world, and some seriously hot weather. We’re finally settling back down in Zagreb. The weather is starting to cool off a bit, and I’m nesting comfortably in the studio with a big cup of coffee.

We’ve got an even bigger Autumn ahead! Bike Polo is back in full swing, and you can expect to see some great promotion from Matej over at Kubusya.com as well as some of the posse at Bike Polo Zagreb.

The shop is super busy with a lot of projects from all around the globe: The US, India, Brazil, and Europe. And I’m very happy to still be involved in some great stuff happening at Fahlgren Mortine. I’ll make sure to post up as much as I can, as well as any extra doodles and cartoons that I idle over in the coming weeks.

Finally, the most exciting thing to happen this Summer was the birth of our son, Peter. It’s such a joy to return to our little corner of Zagreb with a new family member. And as soon as he can hold a pencil, I’ll put him to work.
